Laria DeLeon is a filmmaker from Denver, Colorado. Growing up in poverty with seven other siblings and being the oldest, she knew she had to set a new path for her siblings. Laria's ancestors originated from Spain, France, The Native American Ute tribe, and Polynesia. Laria has always been an artist at heart which would eventually lead her to her passion projects.

Laria is interested in becoming a production coordinator. Her love for horror films began when she first saw Children of the Damned, which illustrated what can happen when monsters and freaks have power and control, representing the empowerment of the marginalized and forgotten. Films like Steel Magnolias and What Dreams May Come helped to teach her how films portray the depth of emotions, leaving the audience feeling less alone in their sadness and loss. The Silence of the Lambs and Misery helped illustrate how monsters aren't always what they appear. Jurrasic Park ultimately influenced her to work with sound design, creating a world with a soundscape that brought the audience in like nothing she had seen before. Other films, such as Twister, Liar Liar, and Mars Attacks, all served as influences in different ways, highlighting the vast array of benefits and rewards in filmmaking, depicting humor, tragedy, and love. 

 

Guillermo del Toro is perhaps one of her greatest influences, because of his monster creation, production design, and color schemes, but also for being a bilingual Latino filmmaker, working with a wide range of actors, creating films in both English and Spanish. She admires the way he tells stories through creatures of urban legend and from a child's perspective.

 

Laria has an in-depth understanding and analysis of horror films and the horror genre. With seven years of film school, working on over 30 student projects, indie projects, and a year in a poast sound h she hopes to bring her knowledge to the big screen while continuing to learn and grow from those who came before her.

 

 

Laria is anything but a simple individual. she shares several interests through all aspects of filmmaking and genres, loves comedies, heartfelt moments, and documentaries that inspire others through hardship and tragedies. No matter what Laria is working on, she thrives in a team environment, prioritizing respect and collaboration in every project she dives into.

When Laria isn't analyzing or working on films, she is training for strongman competitions and is always trying to find new ways to improve her mind and body.
